Artificial Intelligence: Importance, Applications, and AI Assistants Compared
Updated: Jan 13
Introduction
In this blog we will try to understand all about Artificial Intelligence. We will also see its applications and different types of AI assistants available and their features.

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
Artificial Intelligence is the ability of a machine or computer to think, learn and make decisions like a human being. In other words, AI works by learning from data and experience, understanding patterns and using them to make smart decisions. As it gets more data, it improves over time and becomes more accurate.
Why do we need AI?
We need AI because it makes our lives easier, faster and smarter. AI makes it easier to handle tasks that are complex for humans like predicting trends. It helps us in daily life through personalized recommendations. AI saves time by automating repetitive tasks and makes life more convenient.
Applications of AI

AI is used in many areas of our daily life to make things easier and smarter. For example, mobiles use AI for facial recognition, fingerprint scans. Applications like YouTube and Netflix suggest videos and movies based on search history, Google maps use AI to analyze traffic and find the fastest routes, Online shopping websites use AI to recommend products based on user shopping history and buying habits, Banks use AI to detect fraud and assist customers.
Types of AI
Artificial Intelligence is divided into three types
Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI): It is also called as Weak AI, designed to perform one specific task. It cannot do anything outside its scope.
Examples:
Google Maps, Face recognition, Fingerprint scanners, Voice assistants, Chatbots and Email spam filters are few examples of ANI.
Artificial General Intelligence (AGI): It is also called as Strong AI. This AI can think and learn like a human and perform any intellectual task. Today's AI is designed to do only specific tasks whereas AGI can do any task without special programming. AGI doesn't exist yet. It is still a theoretical concept but when it comes to existence, it can do anything that humans can do.
Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI): It is a future stage of AI where machines and applications become more intelligent than humans. It doesn't exist yet, but it will be much smarter than humans that it can discover new inventions, also improve itself without user help.
AI Assistant
It is a software application that uses artificial intelligence, designed to process and respond to the prompts given by the user. It can also understand voice commands in natural language and assist users. They are becoming an important part of our daily life.

Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI)
We will discuss more about the most prevailing type of AI which is Artificial Narrow Intelligence.

Different categories of Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI):
Reactive Machines -
Examples: Email spam filter, Traditional smart thermostats.
Limited Memory -
Examples: Self driving cars, Personal Assistants (Siri, Alexa), Generative AI and chatbots
Rule based -
Examples: Tax software (TurboTax for example), Credit scoring, Airport traffic control systems
Machine Learning -
Examples: Streaming and E-commerce recommendations, Dynamis commute pricing, Healthcare early diagnosis, Finance High frequency Trading, Precision farming
Natural Language Processing-
Examples: Virtual assistants, Customer support chatbots, Real time voice translation
Now that we have some understanding about what an artificial intelligence is and how it works, I would like to elaborate a little more about Generative AI from Limited Memory category of ANI.
Generative AI
It is a type of AI that analyzes the patterns, predicts the next outcome and creates new content based on the analyzed information. It can create content in many formats. Text, Images, Audio, Video and Code. It can write emails, essays, create a photo, painting based on the given prompt, compose a song, mimic a person's voice, it can turn description into a video clip, it can also write the code for an application with a simple prompt.

The most popular Generative AI in the current market are
All-rounder Gen AI tools
Chat GPT (GPT-5 series), Gemini (Google), Claude (Anthropic) and Microsoft Copilot
Image and creative Gen AI tools
Midjourney v7, Runway Gen - 4, Sora, ElevenLabs, Canva, Adobe Firefly, DALL-E, Runway ML, Jasper AI and ImagineArt
Which AI should you use?
The table shows comparison between some of the most popular AI assistants used in today's world

Based on the comparisons from the above table we can understand that ChatGPT is best to use for writing, learning and creative tasks. Gemini is best for real time information and Google app users. Claude is best to prioritize deep reasoning and thoughtful analysis. Copilot is best for productivity and work-related tasks for Microsoft users. Therefore, each AI assistant has its own strengths, choosing the right one depends on the user's requirements.
Conclusion
To conclude, Artificial Intelligence is changing the way we work, learn and create. From simple AI to advanced Generative AI, these technologies are making tasks more easy, fast and efficient. Hope this blog has given you a brief understanding of AI and its uses. With a good understanding, users can take full advantage of AI potential while preparing responsibly for a smarter, more automated world.
