Analyzing Blood Pressure Data using Control Charts in Tableau.

Data Analytics is very crucial in the healthcare sector as it helps to optimize healthcare processes, improve patient outcomes and helps to take key decisions to help patients monitor their key health parameters. Let us see how we can use Control charts in tableau in effectively analyzing Blood pressure data of patients based on each week of visit. Generally, the normal blood pressure of a person is 80/120. This means that their diastolic pressure should be less than 80 and the systolic pressure should be less than 120. Any individual who does not have blood pressure within this range are said to be having High Blood Pressure and are at the risk of having hypertension. Now let us see how we can use Control charts to analyze blood pressure data of patients.

First and foremost, we need to set the Upper Control Limit (UCL) and the Lower Control Limit (LCL) for both the systolic and the diastolic pressures.

We create the following four calculated fields and set the UCL and the LCL.

Lower Diastolic Pressure (LCL) = 60

Upper Diastolic Pressure (UCL)=80

Lower Systolic Pressure (LCL)=100

Upper Systolic Pressure (UCL)= 120

Now we need to analyze the average blood pressure data of patients for each week of visit. So, we bring the Date of Visit as our column and bring the average systolic and diastolic pressure of patients for each week of their visit.

Now, let us mark the average reference line and the reference band (LCL and the UCL) from the analytics tab for both the Systolic and the Diastolic pressures.

Mark the Average Reference Line and the UCL, LCL reference band

Once we mark all the labels, we get the final chart in the form below.

From the Dataset which I have taken, we can see that the average blood pressure data of all the patients is itself outside the control limits. This means that all the patients are having very high blood pressure, and they fall outside the control limits of normal blood pressure, and they are in the high risk of Hypertension.

Thus, I conclude by saying that as per my analysis, Control charts is one of the best choices for analyzing key health parameters.
